Holidays for others means busy weeks for us!
Finally my first week of freestyle teaching! Two French kids, a Belgian and a Danish guy were a great mix to start with. All of them extremely motivated to get their snowboarding to higher level! Pushing their riding with some 180’s, 360’s on kickers, boardslides and presses on the boxes and to top that off the Belgian guy wanted to try a backside rodeo. Not easy for me since it was a trick I wasn’t too comfortable with. Of course as a teacher I couldn’t back down and thanks to his motivation I actually landed it from the first try! Thanks Dries!
The second week got even busier. I had to teach a group of 8 people which was truly challenging! The Danish man from the week before decided to take some more lessons and some Dutchies, Germans and a Portuguese guy joined him.
Unfortunately some of the guys had some bad luck and got a bit injured (arm and wrist fracture). Even though conditions weren’t perfect the remaining boarders did manage to kick their freestyle skills up a nudge by the end of the week!
Next to work there was also time for some partying ! HAPPY NEW YEAR EVERYONE! We had some family over, had too much to eat for dinner and then went down to Flachau center to see the massive fireworks. After that we needed to warm our feet up again and no better place to do so then the local bar: Ema’s Pub! Everyone, who works on and around the mountain, would meet up for a crazy night out! After many great hours of drinking many drinks we headed home for a night with not so many hours of sleep.
I might have been very tired when I got up to go teaching that morning, but the view of clouds hanging low between the mountains and a blue sky and the sun shining bright just made my new years day!
By the end of the week we also had our first Absolut Park contest, Jib Kings. Unfortunately we both had to work and weren’t able to see the contest. But for all of you who want to see the action that went down, check out the Absolut Park facebook site for pictures!

Last but not least we had some more visitors this week! Quiksilver buddy Kezin Vuylsteke came by with 2 friends Frederick Deroo and Wouter Struyf. They were on their way to Slovenia and decided to stop in Flachauwinkl. Lucky for all of us it started snowing the second night they stayed here. Next morning our company could enjoy some fresh powder as I had to go working again. To end their visit we all headed down to the bar where we enjoyed some drinks and many games of hammering nails in wood. Kezin lost almost all the time (even from my girlfriend).
To end this post I still wish all of you the best for 2014! May the winters be cold and filled with snow and may the summer be hot and sunny. And wherever you go try to keep a board under your feet!
